Hi, I’m Sam. I'm the person who thinks gardening rules are more like suggestions.

Plant enthusiast. Garden experiment addict. Professional overthinker of all things botanical (and not). And firm believer that a little dirt under your nails is good for the soul.

I'm a wife, mom to one wildly hilarious little boy, and proud dog mom to two furry beasts. When I'm not wrangling my dependents you'll probably find me elbow-deep in potting soil, reading something unnecessarily scientific about plants, or attempting to grow something that has absolutely no business surviving in my climate.

Spoiler alert: Sometimes it works. Sometimes it becomes compost. Both are great lessons.

My love for plants was born organically, yet there have been quite the amount of casualties in the process - I've killed an impressive number of plants on my journey here. But between the casualties, countless books, late-night research rabbit holes, and a borderline unreasonable number of garden experiments, I've learned that growing beautiful things is equal parts science, patience, curiosity, and a willingness to get it wrong.

And that's exactly why I do what I do - to show everyone that conditions don’t have to be perfect for (most) botany adventures.

Living and gardening at high altitude has taught me that conventional gardening advice doesn't always apply. Short growing seasons, unpredictable weather, dry air, and the occasional June snowstorm? Just another opportunity to get creative. What someone does in Denver won’t necessarily work here.

I believe beautiful gardens and thriving houseplants shouldn't be reserved for people with perfect climates, endless time, or some mythical gift for keeping everything alive.

Gardening isn't black and white. There's a whole lot of green in the grey.

My mission is to take the intimidation out of growing things, share the science without making your eyes glaze over, and help you create spaces that are beautiful, personal, and actually sustainable for your lifestyle and environment.

Whether you're trying to keep your first houseplant alive, dreaming of a garden that defies your growing zone, or simply want someone else to handle the plant chaos, I'm here for it.

Because the best gardens aren't always the ones that follow the rules. Sometimes they're the ones that dare to break them.

Let's grow something unexpected.
